Group Exercise Classes
Jan DeAngelo has been teaching Kettlebell Pump at the JCC for years and remains a favorite!  Kettlebell workouts combine weight training with aerobic exercise and can improve coordination and agility, as well as develop muscle strength and stamina.  Kettlebells are similar to bowling balls, but with a handle on the top.  They come in all sizes.  Participants use the bells to curl and press as they move to music.  Jan can also assist you as a personal trainer

Zumba

ZUMBA fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program to achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exhilarating hour of awe-inspiring movements.  At the JCC we have: ZUMBA & ZUMBA MAX taught by Certified ZUMBA instructor Lindsay Dain and ZUMBA GOLD (or as one follower calls it – ZUMBA “for the inept and uncoordinated”.)  This class moves at a slower pace and is taught by Certified ZUMBA instructor Jill Lukack.  We have recently added AQUA ZUMBA to our repertoire, a first of it’s kind in Broome County. Come check it out!

Spinning at the JCC is taught by Suzanne, Kevin and Brandon, all with many years of experience.  Other classes include Pilates, Aerobics and Total Body Conditioning, a fast paced class covering a variety of modalities, like weight lifting, kettlebells, kickboxing and anything else Val can pull from her bag of tricks!  Our new addition, ReBoot Fitness Camp is a lively fitness camp with 12 training sessions, including weight training, battling ropes, agility, cardio & more.

Starting at 6 am Monday through Friday, our pool has swim times that allow individuals to get in a quick swim before work and offers open swim times at various times during each day. Our Sunday schedule provides an open swim for members and often families with young children take advantage of this time.  A community swim for non-members is offered at $2.00 per child and $3.00 per adult.

Birthday Parties in our pool have become popular this past year and can be booked through our main office by calling 607-724-2417 or see more detail and prices in our seasonal brochure guide.

Physical Education
for UPK and Early Childhood Center
The “J” is the proud home for 90+ students for the Vestal School District Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) program. As part of their regularly scheduled activities, physical education is provided one day each week by “Mr. John”, our Physical Education teacher.

Class units cover a variety of activities from basic movements like walking, running, jumping skipping and hopping. We explore shapes, colors, sizes, distances and patterns as part of our daily routines. Tag games and relays add to the fun and excitement in class as our friends do their best to run an obstacle course or compete in a bean bag relay. Elements of gymnastics are explored through balance and spatial relations and team sports are introduced in a non-competitive atmosphere, where effort and cooperation are the dominant themes.

We would not be complete without adding social skills to our gym time where sharing, taking turns, kindness, helpfulness and cooperation are not only taught be practiced daily.  In addition to our physical education program we provide swim time for every student in our UPK program. Each class is scheduled for 30 minutes of pool time, where the children are encouraged to join the staff in the water to enjoy this unique opportunity that other programs in the area do not offer. Although we do not teach swimming during the school day, group lessons are available in the evening through the JCC.
